To the people complaining about the voice quality - This is a live (not lipsynced) version some (really awesome and generous) person recorded on their cellphone. Calm down. You can't compare this to a professionally-produced performance. rebel was great. And the guy who filmed this is great and generous for posting it here.

Baxter Bruh shut the fuck up. The quality is fine enough for it to be obvious that she's Talk-singing and just yelling out the higher notes. She does well with the character and her singing is fine but don't act like this was in any way perfect.
roundandround14 can we just enjoy it for what it is and over analyzing it. It was a magnificently fun night and I was happy to share.
I don't know why people don't like in in theater and love musicals but I loved this. She got into the character she wasn't trying to sound pretty she was trying to be Ursula I don't understand why people bash people who really bring the character out in the song. She did this very well and I am very impressed well done.
lainee boo Generally when casting professionally, the first and most important thing is the actor's ability to sing. and acting and looks come second. some directors will do it differently but in my experiences in musicals the voice will always get the part

She got the attitude down but this was a singing role, which is the part she couldn’t tackle. Yet another instance of Disney caring more about a name than actual talent (cough Emma Watson cough)

Edit:To the comments about the new live action movie, I am well aware of it. I've watched it, it was fun. Not bad but not masterpiece. I did actually really enjoy Melissa McCarthy's performance. Looking back, I do feel Rebel would probably be too young for the role.

Actually, there are 3 live action adaptations for The Little Mermaid coming up.
One of them has a trailer out. I think Warner Bros was doing the other one with Chloe Moretz as the mermaid (no name for this mermaid revealed), but she left the project. The third one is by Disney, which will have Ursula and Ariel in it. The only info on Disney's new live action adaptation on it, is that it's being planned, and it has Lin Manuel Miranda (song writer in Moana) writing some new songs for the movie, and co-producing it with Marc Platt. The composer of the Disney Animated film will also be returning to compose Disney's live action. So far nobody has been casted for disney's adaptation.

actually the little mermaid they are making is nothing to do with Disney at all its based on the original story so does not have ariel or Ursula as these are characters and names Disney made upnodoubt Disney will make the version based on their cartoon but so far they have no plans just yet

Aside from not being Aretha effing Franklin, I don't know how you could say her vocals aren't strong. Also it's not an easy song to perform; lots of quick words means lots of necessary wind and push for projection/resonance.

If you sing live, it's not uncommon to go off key. Even the best of them do it sometimes.
