true, Palestinians weren't a national group until the establishment of the state of Israel. But neither were Israelis. The people that occupy that territory share a historical, ethnic and cultural identity, just not a national title because the land was held by various different nations throughout the ages (including both before and after the original nation of Israel).

Many people that are citizens of Israel are people whose descendants left the region in the middle ages and then came back in the 1940's when the state was reestablished, so they actually have less of an ancestral claim than many of the Arab occupants. But then it depends on how far back you go, as I said before. you could take the dispute back thousands of years and you'd never really know (and would it even really matter?) who was there first. I've said a lot of this stuff before.

I think this is a good discussion and even with the few bad apples, people have for the most part been civil and made a lot of good points. But it's becoming kind of redundant, especially with the two threads are essentially saying the same thing. Maybe a merge is in order.

I just enjoy watching precisely how everything is reported.

Why is it that when Islamic rooted terror strikes, be it the train bombing in Spain, the attacks in England several years back, the massacre in Bombay (Mumbai) just 4 - 5 weeks ago and just about every attack that takes place in Israel, the resultant damages are rarely if ever seen on tv. The MSM seem to make light of attacks against western oriented targets. I guess that, from their point of view it's hardly worth a half a days reporting. They'd rather return to the story about a murdered 3 y/o Florida girl and talk about that for a straight month until Israel finally decides to return fire . . . Now we have a story ! Visual drama ! Get the cams rollin' ! Over here !! Blood - Guts - Women - Children - Civilian Casualties - Israel BAD ! - Israel Wrong ! etc ad nauseam

Rodney King's famous quote is in order. lol ! :helpme: :D

I think Israel should have accepted the cease-fire. Of course they can't expect Hamas to keep it's word, they never do, but that's what being the good guys means, that you be the bigger man and do the right thing.

Also, I think that your "innocence project" example is yet another non profit political activist campaign, not much different than the likes of . . say the splc.

Hard to argue with the 226 people cleared and released though isn't it? How many had already been executed or don't have DNA available?

"Innocence Project Case Profiles

There have been 226 post-conviction DNA exonerations in United States history. These stories are becoming more familiar as more innocent people gain their freedom through postconviction testing. They are not proof, however, that our system is righting itself.

The common themes that run through these cases — from global problems like poverty and racial issues to criminal justice issues like eyewitness misidentification, invalid or improper forensic science, overzealous police and prosecutors and inept defense counsel — cannot be ignored and continue to plague our criminal justice system.

Seventeen people had been sentenced to death before DNA proved their innocence and led to their release.
The average sentence served by DNA exonerees has been 12 years.
About 70 percent of those exonerated by DNA testing are members of minority groups.
In almost 40 percent of the cases profiled here, the actual perpetrator has been identified by DNA testing.
Exonerations have been won in 33 states and Washington, D.C."

I still wonder just how someone who has been proven to be innocent ever was able to be convicted and given a sentence of death in the 1st place?
Something seriously wrong, and the stats above make it clear just what the factors are that lead to such occurences.I think even people who in theory support the death penalty which I do not as there is zero evidence that it is a deterent (states who execute have some of the highest murder rates) would say that our system is too flawed to allow to continue with it.
Now this is fairly off topic but I think maybe the connection to the debate here on Israel might be that since 70% of the people exonerated were a member of a minority group is the age old arguement of if ALL peoples lives are of equal value. If the answer is no and we are willing to overlook the innocents sentenced to death then we are ripe for new round of extermination camps in the world.
