Immortal Beloved Scene - Beethoven plays "Moonlight Sonata"

Beethoven was so talented he was even a great actor and did an outstanding job playing Gary Oldman here.
Hahaaha
Very funny
So so true 💖😋✌️🥳🥰
Big fan of Beethoven, Romeo is Bleeding catapulted him.
...and speaking Spanish.
That's sooo good
It brings me to tears whenever I play Moonlight Sonata. To know that Beethoven lost his hearing and still was able to write such beauty and to know that he could only hear it in his mind. To play it mechanically, without passion, would be dishonorable. I always give it everything I have, every nuance, every stress is vital. God bless his memory.
I play moonlight sonata with my guitar and everytime I do it, I feel like flouting in the clouds and I can't get rid of this beautiful feelings, it's WONDERFUL.
Any honest person who can also write and play music will tell you that a composition is heard in the mind and the heart ...it is hard to explain better , but you do not need to hear it in the normal auditory sense to know that is right. Mozart could hear the instruments he wrote for in his study.
Hearing yourself play an instrument that you write for is only a validation of what was created inside your soul.
I think I read that he wrote Moonlight Sonata before he had completely lost his hearing.
My uncle who was in a symphony orchestra once told me that it is better to play imperfectly with passion than perfectly without. He was a second violin and confessed to being unable to fit all the notes in as he put it but the conductor liked his passion and put him in the second chair ahead of those with perfect skill but played like a music box.

Beethoven was an introvert who avoided people and especially crowds whenever he could. Not anything like He's portrayed today.Great musician.
Yes
Ahh so that's why I fell for him.. I love Ludwig and his compositions very much.. He's my idol when it comes to classical music.. I am the same as him.. an introvert
He didnt avoid crowds whenever he could. He loved performing. Its chopin who despised that. Now more accurately: Beethoven was very embarrassed that people might know he was deaf. He was regarded as one of the best... Who couldn't hear?!? So after he went deaf he then avoided all interactions with people because he was scared of them 1) finding out and 2) Having an embarrassing awkward meeting with someone. He didn't even like to leave the house. By all means he wished this were not the case.He was only completely deaf in the later period of his life. Before then he was very much out going.
He wanted to kill himself but he didnt because of his love for music. Whats totally incredible is that he composed the 9th Symphony when he was totally deaf. Imo the greatest Music piece of all time. However he isnt among my favorite musicians. I like Grieg, Bach and Chopin the most. I can also recommend Louis Gottschalk, a american componist. Chopin called him the King of pianists
@@Daniel-kq4bx More accurately. Beethoven felt he owed the world his music. That it would be incorrect to die before he could provide the world the most music he could compose.
I remember in an interview when the journalist said to Gary Oldman, how realistic & convincing he looked at playing it, to which Gary replied, I actually played it, I spent 6 months & countless hours learning it.
Absolutely brilliant, I believe he is the greatest actor alive today.
And a couple of years learning italian

How do you say "Karen" in German?
Beethoven was actually a premier performer, but due to his loss of hearing, he needed to rely on other means of income, composing being one of those means. Most of his most beloved and remembered works were composed after he began losing his hearing, which begs the statement, although he wasn't better off going deaf on a personal level, the world may have been the beneficiary of his dilemma, music that embodies the true human spirit and ultimate triumph over all ills.
What a sad and beutiful story
Yes...and he wasnt totally deaf until close to the end of his 54 year life
I think the world still doesnt understand how powerfull music really is
I think it does. Music is basically everywhere
My two cats really loved it. They both slowly went to sleep.
Its so powerful. I can recall events in my life through the songs of that moment.
I understand
This is REAL music, not like the demonic crap we have now
The most precious sonata of the whole world was given to us by someone who couldn't hear how beautiful really was ! If i had to choose the music for my funeral that would be it ! Perfectly balanced between sadness and passion !
He wrote the Moonlight Sonata when he was 31 years old. His hearing was not perfect at that time, but he could still hear reasonably well. The movie takes certain liberties for dramatic effect.
he heard it with his mind, the ears are just translators of vibration
He had perfect pitch
Don’t disturb someone while they are playing the piano.
Amen🙏
I can vouch for this
I agree and especially when they are hard of hearing, I know because I am, RIP maestro Beethoven x
I can agree with this statement
EVER!!
True artists can feel their music. It was as if Beethoven was listening to its heartbeat.
As a professional, You can hear it in your head. I see a piece of music and I know exactly what it says. The only problem is , it leaves out the musician. The interpratation. The feeling and that just, frankly, sucks.

One of the best pieces of music ever composed. Ever.
Lark ascending stands with it.
He didn't play those foul notes by mistake ...he was filling the room with vibrations so he could get some feedback . He couldn't hear clearly but he could feel . It's similar with Echolocation sense that bats and dolphins use . Only 1000 times more difficult when you actually trying to make music ! What a genius ...i am speechless every time i hear that song !

This scene demonstrates the deepest talk of the soul! Beethoven always!
Horrible dubbing. Didnt do justice to the beauty of that scene
He was not deaf, he was gradually getting deaf, he could still hear for a very long period of his life, he became completely deaf only when he was very very but very old
Edit: wow 4K likes, thanks everyone :)
This still does not imply he isn't already partially deaf, just saying.
Beethoven died at age 57. You call that "very, very old?" From 1803-1812 as his hearing failed, he began to use the lower notes that he could hear more clearly. Works including the Moonlight Sonata, his only opera Fidelio and six symphonies were written during this period. The high notes returned to his compositions towards the end of his life which suggests he was hearing the works take shape in his head.
Mark Wolfson thanks google, at that time over 50 was considered old because of the plague....
But didn't someone have to turn him to face the standing ovation after a performance one time because he couldn't hear them clapping?
very very very old? He died when he was fifty years old: v
The radical actor plays the radical composer. Very much adequate...
Beethoven the most extraordinary composer of all time. My parents took me to see Fantasia when I was 3 years old. The first time I heard Beethoven’s 6th symphony “Pastorale”. I asked my Dad what was the instrument playing the high notes. He replied “it is a piccolo “. I told him I wanted to learn how to play the piccolo. Fast forward to the 4th grade I learned how to play the flute & in the 8th grade I played the piccolo. I played for 15 1/2 years. Thank you Dad & Beethoven for fueling my passion of classical music. Cheers 😉🌷
Using the vibrations to hear instead? Truly genius!
Well you could say that but he's slowly losing his hearing, so putting his head over the wood makes it better for him to hear.
He wasn’t deaf yet. The wood amplified the sound. Like if you tap a table and then put your ear on the table and tap it is much louder. Also Beethoven had perfect pitch so he could hear the notes in his head even when he was deaf!
@@thanos4677 also i heard that hes 70% deaf when he created symphony no5,which means at that point he cannot hear a violin anymore, theres a rumor that hes just imagining the sound? Is that real?
Thanos my table is marble and you can hear it better it doesn’t matter if it’s wood or not putting your ear on the thing you’re touching will amplify the sound
_GamePatcher_ “perfect pitch”
I wish she would let him complete the sonata...
I never understand why a person would disturb an other who is deep into a song. Nothing infuriates me more.

I know I'm not much for piano music honestly having said I listened to moonlight Sonora almost everyday
@@michaelstewart8924 I reckon if you listened to it every day you'd end up sick. Listen to how much angst there is in that remote minor key - it is not at all a relaxing piece.
He is not only hearing the vibrarions of the piano's wood but hearing his own soul in a quiet moment of peace flowing from the heart.
A soul makes noise? What does it sound like?
And here i am a grown damn man crying like a kid hearing this song so Close to my heart in those hard times .
It's actually a common myth that Beethoven was born deaf. Beethoven wasn't born deaf. He became partially deaf, but only became "completely" deaf in his last seven years of life. He was quite aware and made as many pieces in his last days to satisfy his musical needs. It's very, very sad to read his letters to his brother talking about his life and how he couldn't hear his own piano and how he wanted to kill himself. He truly did just want to play piano. RIP Beethoven.
Edit: I forgot to correct my typo "Beethoven was born deaf" never have I thought that let me make that clear. That was a typo. It would be dumb to think anyone deaf could just play an instrument off vibration. Yes it could be possible, but rarely possible if not impossible.
Really, irony.
There are literally scums who are good for nothing living up to like 80 and there few rare people who had changed the world but due to many problem like disease ,mental illness etc they left early.
He wasn't born deaf. Beethoven only started to loose his hearing in his late twenties, after he had established himself as a prime composer already.
@@jakegearhart what it it was genetic

Tom Hulce also played the piano pieces himself in Amadeus. The actual music heard in the film was pre-recorded and not his playing, but he had to learn it because Milos Forman wanted it to look 100% authentic and correct on screen.

As a composer myself, I briefly studied Beethoven, but not his music but his life, especially his medical condition, and it is my opinion that he his constant bowel-pain was either Crohns Disease or Ulcerative Colitis. As a sufferer myself I can hear the pain, the discomfort and resulting bitterness at his lot through his music... here especially! Though through that music, whilst difficult to do... it did bring light and with that comes sweet soothing... Hope. BRAVO that man what a legacy.. 🏆
